Spring Stock: A Springfield Music Festival

Something that I love about Springfield is the live music scene. I am drawn to the fact that local musicians and artists can show off their passion wherever; whether it be house shows, front yards, or someone's basement, the location doesn’t matter as long as they can play. However, this year, some local Springfieldians decided to amplify the platform that musicians have had in past years and created an all day festival for bands.

Spring Stock is a collaborative music festival that has continued to grow since its first festival in 2023. Spring Stock is a passion project for so many artists around the Springfield metropolitan area who get to come together for one day and play their art for many. This music festival features bands around the Springfield area and gives musicians the opportunity to reach a larger audience then they would when playing a house show.

Running an event like this takes time and people who really care about the music scene in Springfield. Minerva Miller, Justin Flowers, Phillip Robinson-Morgan and Emme Harris have all worked around the clock to coordinate this event. Spring Stock is hosting 20 local bands at Mothers Brewing Company on April 6 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with 30 minute long setlists from each band. Tickets are purchasable through Spring Stock’s Instagram account @417springstock. There will be an outdoor and indoor stage, with varying music and vendors around the venue. The festival is open to all ages, all day. Vendors such as Tinga Tacos, Rugged Luv, and Algae Worldwide will be highlighting small businesses around Springfield and providing a tasty bite for concertgoers.

Getting to talk to Miller about Spring Stock, I can always tell how passionate they are about this event. The origins of Spring Stock started from their love of music.

“Spring Stock started as an idea I had for my birthday. I told my friends that all I wanted to do for my birthday was perform,” said Miller.

Last year was Spring Stocks first year and it was amazing to see many talented artists and musicians come together from the Springfield community. “At some point it just evolved into an all day festival. We just decided to keep making it bigger and better. To make it a huge collaboration of artists,” said Miller.

With a short amount of time to pull the event together, Miller faced some bumps in the road, but that only made them more determined to make this year's Spring Stock much larger.

“The goal of Spring Stock is to garner a sense of community and appreciation for the arts for all ages. We’ll have a few more surprises in store for those who wish to join us,” said Miller.
